The British Craft, Craft for All

Maisoncraft

After I visited London Design Week for couple of days, I realise that the creative industry has important role supporting the art and craft. Eventually London Design Fair has not focused mainly in the craft, however, it surprises that there are large number of handmade objects have been promoted in this fair. The British craft is designed and treated as valuable object since British people appreciate and understand the value of them. Moreover, public sector has set up the organisation that can develop and support the maker who creates the art and craft. In the meantime, numerous of private companies constantly push the craft to the market. They provide platform for the craftsmen showcasing the unique product that has been selected.

Turning to the aspect of Thai craft, the craft sector in this country has strongly supported from the royal family. Thai wisdom has developed and promoted by the SUPPORT and SACICT foundation that set up by the vision of The Majesty Queen of Thailand, Queen Sirikit. She recognised that Thai craft gradually diminish in the future, so she creates a cycle of service in the craft industry. The SUPPORT and SACICT foundation starts sourcing the master of artisans and visit the individual village to mentoring the local people to utilise the material in their everyday life creating the craft. The wisdom has delivered and developed from generation to another generation through her idea. These developed crafts return back to the foundation which help trading and finding the distributor for them.

However, the different is that there is a minimal number of Thai and Asian people who appreciate the craft nowadays. Are craft so related to their lives to be neglected as an ordinary object, or do they forget the value of their nearest wisdom?
